The Presbyterian Church of the Mountain in Delaware Water Gap, PA presented The Dixie Gents on Sunday August 22nd as part of their Summer Gazebo Concert Series. Due to the rainy weather conditions, the concert was held inside the church’s sanctuary but this change of venue did nothing to inhibit the free wheeling style and outrageous performance of these fun loving musicians. Although it was noted there were little if any rehearsal between them prior to the concert, their mastery of the instruments they played brought a great deal of joy to those who were fortunate enough to hear them.
After a brief introduction given by Presbyterian Church of the Mountain’s George Munn, The Dixie Gents began to play their brand of Jazz reminiscent of the styles associated with the clubs found in New Orleans and other southern locals. The Dixie Gents consists of Bob Leive on Trumpet, Rich Chamberlain on Trombone, Nelson Hill on Soprano Sax, Ray Schweisgath on Banjo, and Jim Daniels on Tuba.
It wasn’t long until their free for all style led to heads swaying, toe tapping, and hands clapping. What a ruckus they made. It was really a very fun night for some great music.
