Going Forward at ESU

The East Stroudsburg University of PA held an Artist’s Reception in their Madelon Powers Gallery on Thursday October 14th which featured the work of Joni Oye-Benintende. A sizable crowd came together to experience the exhibition titled, “Going Forward in Reverse” in spite of the wet, dreary weather that dominated the day. The Reception was well worth the endeavor to brave the elements for as each piece presented its unique beauty and depth for each attendee to explore.

According to the program provided to the Gallery’s visitors, the exhibit derived from the artist’s inspiration to go back to the work she had previously explored with much of it left incomplete. In her endeavors to revise and manifest the ideas of her past efforts, Ms. Oye-Benintende created a bridge connecting the past to the present which may yet lead to a future vision created through the perceptions of those who experiences the work. One could have seen this in the thoughtful gazes of those who attended the reception as a silent countenance communicated a great deal more than the conversations about what they felt about the shapes and designs was able to convey.

The Exhibition Continues until November 24th. You’ll find more photographs taken during the reception in The Forwardian Arts Society Visual Arts 2010 Gallery at www.myspace.com/forwardian_arts. The next Exhibition at The Madelon Powers Gallery will be the University’s Semester Review to be presented November 29th until December 10th featuring the work of students enrolled the in the Fall Semester Art Classes.
