A
sense of excitement touched the imagination as a large number of
friends, art lovers, and students entered The East Stroudsburg
University (ESU) of PA's Madelon Powers Gallery on Thursday
October 6th
to experience the Recent Works of Sean Turrell. Statues mingled among
the gathering in their stationary positions while paintings and tile
works adorned the main gallery's walls. The excitement escalated when
even more three dimensional figures created by the artist were found
in the venue's Mezzanine.
The
sensual and spiritual aspects of the human condition were
communicated through Mr. Turrell's work. This was especially true of
the sculpted pieces whose lines and contours enticed one's desire to
explore their attributes as one would those belonging to a lover. The
paintings presented also explored the spiritual and sensual
dimensions of life as layers of colors were sculpted upon the canvas
creating landscapes of emotions with their hues. A wall of small
tiles echoed the esoteric themes of the other work on display while
maintaining an unique quality through a pattern of images with many
presenting similar depictions of an object along with variations
embedding a singular characteristic to each tile.
The
figures populating the venue's Mezzanine extruded a sense of a
divinity one would be immersed in within a temple or a sacred site.
Their alignment provided a peacefulness to the individual who
ventured to the Entresol as they gently looked upon each visitor
while offering their silent guidance to those opened hearts who were
in need of it. This sensation enhanced those manifested through the
remainder of the exhibit of extraordinarily works created with a
depth embodied within every molding and brush stroke employed by the
artist. The profundity and beauty of the exhibition entreats those
who seek meaning in the art they explore to visit and revisit the
gallery often in order to journey through its textures and discover
their essence. You'll
